Statement of Research Interests in support of an application for the position of Assistant Professor

چکیده
My main research interests involve the study of neural information processing, neural coding and information representation in biological systems. In particular I am interested in understanding information processing functions of neural ensemble activity and the biological mechanisms through which these functions are implemented. My current research concentrates on three basic aspects related to these issues: developing analytical tools and quantitative approaches to characterizing the neural representation of sensory stimuli; studying the statistical properties of natural sensory signals and their relations to biological sensory systems; and studying structure/function relations in biophysical models of neural systems. The animal model which I am currently using is the cricket’s cercal sensory system, investigated in the laboratory of Dr. John P. Miller and Dr. Gwen Jacobs. I also collaborate with Dr. Charles M. Gray and Dr. Rony Azouz on projects of visual sensory processing in the early cortical areas of cats and primates. My original training is in quantitative disciplines (Physics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematical Neurobiology). One of the most important goals which I achieved during my postdoctoral work at Dr. Miller’s lab was to obtain sound training in neurophysiological and behavioral experimental methods and procedures. Since then I have continued to work in close collaboration with experimentalists.

In the last decade, high profile financial frauds committed by large companies in both developed and developing countries were discovered and reported. This study compares the performance of five popular statistical and machine learning models in detecting financial statement fraud. The research objects are companies which experienced both fraudulent and non-fraudulent financial statements betw...
متن کاملEstablishing an Argument-Based Validity Approach for a Low-Stake Test of Collocational Behavior
Most of the validation studies conducted across varying test application contexts are usually framed within the traditional conceptualization of validity and therefore lack a comprehensive framework to focus on test score interpretations and test score use. This study aimed at developing and validating a collocational behavior test (CBT), drawing on Kane's argument-based approach to validity. F...

Political elite’s relations for maintaining power is an important key to analyse the government’s behaviour. This paper presents a new network policy among the Iranian political elite using Social Network Analysis Method. How do they make the network? Is there Elite to Elite family relation based on ideological united or common interests? Network boundary is the political elites who have kinshi...
متن کاملApplication of Shape Analysis on 3D Images - MRI of Renal Tumors
The image recognotion and the classification of objects according to the images are more in focus of interests, especially in medicine. A mathematical procedure allows us, not only to evaluate the amount of data per se, but also ensures that each image is pro- cessed similarly. Here in this study, we propose the power of shape analysis, in conjunction with neural networks for reducing white n...

Establishing a network of transit routes with satisfactory demand coverage is one of the main goals of transitagencies in moving towards a sustainable urban development. A primary concern in obtaining such anetwork is reducing operational costs. This paper deals with the problem of minimizing construction costsin a grid transportation network while satisfying a certain level o...
